Thoughts on Weight Loss

What are your thoughts on weight loss/weight management? Do you see weight loss as a goal, or as an outcome from healthy decisions? Perhaps the old adage of “You are what you eat” could also be “You are what you think.”  Many of us, myself included, tend to sabotage ourselves rather than support ourselves with our thoughts, beliefs, and the way we treat ourselves.

My Facebook Page this week is focusing on different thoughts and patterns that different people have.  Some may apply to you, others may not.  I know as I looked down the list there are some who apply to me more frequently than others.  Why the focus on thoughts?

Our thoughts become our actions, become our patterns, become our habits, become our lives.  If we are beating ourselves up all the time then we begin allowing others to do the same and we believe what we hear.  When we are kind to ourselves and others, we discover others following suit.

I just returned from an 11 day trip home to Indiana with my darling daughter. While there I gained 5.5 pounds. I enjoyed foods from my childhood that brought back many joyful memories, I also ate a large breakfast every morning.  I CHOSE to indulge while I was visiting.  The difference is that now, I am thinking things like, “how could I have made that jumbo-burger work for me or less against me?” (make it a single burger without the extra bun, but keep all the veggies and slaw on it)  I also could have stuck with my traditional protein shake for breakfast and left those extra calories for my other meals.

Yes, it was fattening. Yes, I enjoyed it. Yes, it brought back memories. Yes, I am capable of gently taking those pounds off with purposeful living and eating. Life is stressful enough, I don’t need to make my weight one of those stressors.
