Obesity and Preventable Death

Really?  You can do that? Don’t we all die?

YES, we do, ALL, die, however, our time here on earth doesn’t have to be riddled with pain and suffering.  Simple changes, made over time, can significantly decrease our chances of suffering from obesity (which can be crippling) which in turn decreases our chances of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer.

I recently received an email from Public Health Corps with some very valuable information, so I thought I would share it with you in regard to this important topic.

Nowhere is immune to this epidemic:

We already know the health risks associated with obesity, don’t we?

  • High Blood pressure
  • Stroke
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Abnormal triglycerides and cholesterols
  • Metabolic syndrom
  • Cancer
  • Sleep Apnea
  • Reproductive problems…
  • See more at this link.

The list is surprisingly long, however, there is something that can be done. I know, I’ve done it, I have friends who have done it, and with work, commitment, and teamwork, you can do it too!

What is this epidemic costing us? How much of our tax dollars are going toward obesity related issues?

Waist Line Reduction–Weight Loss is so Blasé & Fat is not Beautiful!

Let me be honest… The numbers on the scale SUCK!  The size of your clothing and how they fit are a MUCH better predictor of your health, and be honest… That IS what it should all be about!

To many of us have been told for too long that the numbers on the scale are what matter! The number on the scale may have some semblance of your current state of health, but really.  Dump it!

I’ve been the skinny mini who hated the term. I’ve been over 200 pounds. I’ve plateaued at 160 for YEARS.  And I even bought into the belief that I needed to “weigh” a certain amount.

Not Anymore! Today I focus on how my clothes fit, how I feel, my energy levels, and the absence of needed pharmaceuticals.

A 150 pound woman who lifts weights, eats right, and makes smart healthy choices will look different than a woman of the same height who never works out, eats whatever is on special at the market or restaurant and exposes herself to anything and everything you can buy at the grocery store. (Photo from Macey Brooke’s CPT blog)

I am also tired of hearing about all sizes are beautiful.  While I believe that all humans are beautiful, I don’t believe all sizes are.  When a human cannot walk from the car to the store and shop because their muscles and bones cannot hold them up, I do NOT believe that is beautiful.  (The size, not the person.)  I’m sorry, I just don’t.

When a person begins to see the Waist Line increase, the health maladies increase as well. Productivity in the work place decreases, absenteeism increases, medical bills increase. Statistics prove it.

I don’t see suffering and illness as beautiful.  The people inside the body are VERY beautiful! They may also be emotionally abusing themselves or even oblivious to the state their body has fallen into. They may not even realize why they are sick so often or sick and tired of being tired and sick.

Enter a different view of yourself! When we love our selves, treat ourselves as God’s chosen, feed ourselves as if we were offering a meal to HIM, we get different results than when we just shove anything and everything into our mouths.

This is why I offer Waist Line Reduction team coaching classes and Healthy living trainings in the work place, a monthly support group to those in the area looking to find others and Simple steps anyone can begin taking to improve their health, increase their energy, reduce their chances of being diagnosed with degenerative diseases, and possibly even eliminating pharmaceuticals. (as I did) Finally, I offer an amazing system based on sports nutrition. Nothing artificial, safe for competitive athletes and nursing moms.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! I looked in the mirror this morning and I actually liked what I saw— not quite so “thick” when I turn sideways—it’s a combination of it all, you were the catalyst I was needing!!!”

My clients are seeing AMAZING differences in their daily energy levels, in the way their clothes fit, in their self esteem, and in how people greet them.  I find GREAT joy in celebrating THEIR victories and successes!

I actually walk around with my shirt off around the house again because I’m not afraid anymore that, if I bend in a certain way, my fat rolls are going to disgust my wife.

(Here’s an article from June 21, 2013 explaining how the American Medical Association now says, “If you are Fat, Does it Mean You are Ill? (Yes, Says AMA)”  Lets get YOU healthy again!

Just cuz ya eat it, doesn’t mean it will nourish your body.

People in the US consume more food, per capita, than any other nation.

We also are top contenders for the most coronary/heart disease, stroke, cancers, diabetes, and hypertension.

Food Not Nutrition

Its not too late to make a change.  Once we begin feeding our body what it needs to build healthy, happy cells the body begins getting stronger and better able to correct issues that lead to those top, silent killers.

Thank you to Heather Lloyd LMT for your question regarding Magnesium for muscle cramps and specifically, how do I find a supplement that won’t work against me with my IBS.  Here is what I have found in my research. Continue reading →

I’m never sick and I eat whatever I want!

I eat what I want

I hear this on occasion.  (from my husband as well, but he is beginning to change his tune.)  I hear this from people who eat tons of “crap” and drink a lot of sodas, “I am rarely sick.”  They feel they can eat whatever they want and its no big deal because they have been healthy to this point.  (Many of them have recently been discovering things changing, rapidly.)

Decrease Weight = Increased Productivity

Obesity

According to the Centers for Disease Control, absenteeism increases with weight.  So whether you rely on your own efforts for an income, or the efforts of your employees, lifestyle and what you/they eat is an important part of your business.  Obese women with a BMI of 40 or greater missed an average or 141% MORE time due to sick leave than women of a normal BMI.

MSNBC reported in 2010 that Loss of productivity due to obesity costs as much as medical expenditures for the condition, according to a new study that pegs the cost of obesity among full-time workers in the United States at $73.1 billion per year.

A report from UCLA’s Insights Health care states:

When people don’t eat right, the No. 1 thing that happens is they become less energetic, less able to think clearly and less able to do their jobs.

Productivity will go down when you’re not eating properly and nutrition is very, very important for mental activity and to maintain productivity.

For people in business who have physical jobs, it’s even worse. Anyone who’s in a physical job requires very good nutrition or they’ll lose their muscles and possibly be injured.

Many studies have shown that even after a life threatening illness like cancer or heart attack 90% of people refused to change their habits, what can we do to make , easy changes?Healthy Local Vegetables for Healthy Diet

What can be done to change poor habits?

All you have to do is eat a healthier diet, which means a lot of colorful fruits and vegetables.

One of the things I find very helpful for executives, which I wrote about in my book is to take a shake in the morning similar to what weightlifters used to take. (DR. DAVID HEBER)

This would be made with soy protein, nonfat soy milk and frozen fruit in a blender. This is a great way to get 25 to 35 grams of protein. Then exercise about 30 minutes a day — this should include weightlifting and aerobic exercise. The important thing is to start out gradually and get advice from an exercise specialist.

Even walking a short distance with a gradual increase in distance and duration can make a difference!

So the next time you opt to order in for your employees, instead of a greasy pizza, consider being a good example of promoting productivity and opt for healthy salads or vegetable heavy meals!

Have a GREAT Weekend!!!

Heart Disease–Cancer–Sugar–> Tolerance=increased Sugar

I don’t believe sugar is the only thing to blame heart disease, cancer and other diseases. I do believe it is a significant factor.  When we look at the typical American diet today, it is full of sugar, and not just the sugars we see depicted in these photos and videos.  Today we’ll focus on this sugar and its effects and a way to prevent disease.

I begin with the video from 60 minutes where Dr. Sanjay Gupta talks with leading experts and the effects on the body when sugar is ingested.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on new research showing sugar’s effects on the body.

Amazing findings! One of the findings in this report was that as the body begins to eat more and more sugar, it takes more and more to provide the dopamine results. Just like an addiction of anything else.

I think about everything my daughter is enticed to eat on a daily basis, what my HUSBAND is enticed to eat on a daily basis… Mt. Dew, donuts, candy, cookies, cup cakes, processed food loaded with sugars to make us want them.  (My daughter is enticed by sugary fruit juices, cup cakes, candy, foods labeled “healthy” with sugar listed as the first or second ingredient) Sad smile

Our beverage of choice is water, an occasional rehydration drink (Performance) and occasional fruit juice with no added sugars.  I prefer whole fruit as a treat instead so that we are getting the fiber content with the sugars.  The way nature planned it.

Rethink your drink - sugar

Because of the information on the chart below, and other research, my family and I don’t begin our day with breakfast cereal, its not even in the house.  We prefer a healthy protein shake in the morning followed by our nutritional supplements and a tasty treat of craisins or something similar.

Breakfast Cereal sugar Content

I will admit, it wasn’t an easy transition the first time I gave up sugars. I went through with drawl and it was really pretty nasty.  The last time I gave up the bulk of sugars, it wasn’t as bad.  I used a balanced diet and nutrition to curb my cravings and assist me in my trek to a healthier life.

Today, I am blessed to be back on the lead lap of life.  You can be too.  For information, a consultation, or questions, feel free to contact me.
